I've been so excited about the [very late!] arrival of pea chicks this season, I really wasn't thinking in terms of something else being as exciting. But there is!
Although I've seen him before, his visits were very infrequent, but now--all of a sudden--this beautiful boy has become a regular in my yard. From my research, I believe that he's an India Blue Pied peacock, although he may be an India Blue Pied White-eyed peacock. I'll have to do a bit more looking around to figure it out for sure.
Meanwhile, please enjoy some pics I've taken during the last few days of this unusual, lovely peacock. He's still a youngster, probably between one and two years old.

Loving the pictures of this handsome fellow! I was "adopted" by a male about 4 years ago. Looked out my bedroom window because the cats were going crazy and was eye to eye with "Big Bird". For several years we thought our neighbors had brought him home and they thought we had brought him home. He is great to have around and we'd love to have him bring a female home sometime so we can see babies running around as well. Of course, I can only imagine the honking and screeching that would go on if we had babies around too.
ReplyDeleteOh, lilith, you have *NO* idea about the honking, squawking, and screeching! But I wouldn't trade it for anything. It typically starts right about New Year's Day, and continues for months. The boys are losing their long feathers now, and we have a few months of relative peace and quiet before they're ready for mating season again.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about the peacock who adopted you. Are you near somewhere that's home to peafowl? I'm about a mile from the Arboretum in Arcadia, and that's where our peafowl population originated, then spread out.
